Silay City is considered to be
one of the most historic seats in Negros Occidental. It is affluent in culture
and culturally-oriented people.
Silay is best known for its
numerous ancestral houses, landmarks, Legend of Kansilay and the industry that
brought delight and honor to the Silaynons.
Every time I go to school, I pass
by the beautiful city and as always, I am astonished how rich and alive Filipino
culture is. Every day, the feeling is the same..Not until December.

Every Christmas, Silay City is packed
with lights that seem to play with you sight. Different Christmas booths are
built by every barangays using indigenous materials, depicting their ways of
life through displays such as the Nativity scene, Christmas trees and stars. These
are made by purely Silaynons who are aesthetically inclined and who wants to
share how different Christmas celebration is in Negros and in Silay City.
At the center of the plaza stands
a colossal Christmas tree, ingeniously made and crammed with gleaming lights
and pulsating colors of red and green. The tree is exquisitely made using rattan
and other indigenous materials that are very abundant in the city. It is one of
the core attractions in Silay City’s Christmas village.
Christmas is really something different
in Silay City. People are lovable and hospitable, Filipino culture is alive and
will live even if innovation takes place.
Visiting Silay City during
Holidays is experiencing Christmas with a faultless scent of pure Filipino culture.
No doubt, the city is considered to be the little Paris of Negros.
