a SMART New Year's Resolution

Every start of the year, we aim for a better life and a better horizon ahead of us. we always want change to happen within us and expect something good to happen in the future---that leads us to making a new year's resolution.

http://volunteercalgary.files.wordpress.
com/2011/01/new-years-resolution-apple.jpg
But before we jump into another resolution mission for the next year, we should ask ourselves first if our resolutions last year were put into action or materialized.

We always wanted to impose changes in our life and make ourselves better than last year but as time passes by, the value of having a new year's resolution diminishes and degrades. Most of us want to change through new year's resolution but sometimes, some of our resolution s do not come true...

At present, I guess, the real essence of resolutions changes. It becomes a thing that is just conditioning our minds that we will achieve what we want. . . but it must be paired with our willingness towards doing a particular aim. Having a new year's resolution without doing something to make things happen is damn useless.

As I asked my friends they said that there are really resolutions that do not become  tangible or even put into practice. That is maybe because, sometimes, we lack discipline. I guess, it's not how many resolutions you have but as to how many of them are easy to work on with.

Here are some tips in making a New Year's Resolution:
1. List down the most attainable ones. It must be specific.
2. A resolution must be measurable so that you will know how far have you reached.
3. A resolution must be attainable so that it would be easy for you to work on with an aim(don't be too ambitious).
4. You must be responsible. Why? because if you're not, your resolution will be useless.
5. Lastly, a resolution must be workable in an allocated period of time. It must be time bounded.

Always remember: A NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION IS NOT A WISH LIST. It is a list of tasks needed to be accomplished within a year. Live your life fully. Make the best out of it and make your resolutions SMART.

2011: Looking Back with Gratitude

2011 has been an startling year for me: I was able to meet different Kinds of people who made marks in my existence and my discernment towards life; I was given opportunities that helped and molded me as a person; I was able to learn so many lessons in life; and I was able to survive stress and share my life with others.

Before I leave for a break and before this rewarding year ends, I would like to convey my gratitude to everyone who are part of this thriving year; First and foremost, to our Almighty who gave me vigor, wisdom and a positive heart; to my parents and relatives who gave their full support in every endeavor that I take; to my friends who inspire and pushed me to bring out the finest in me; to my mentors who shared their time and effort for my development as a person; to my Technopacer Family who helped and let me see how significant the role of journalism; to my social networking friends, to my followers here in blogger who had been the witness of the growth of this blog ; and to all of those who shared their precious time and memories and who are in one way or another contributed to what I am right now.

2012 is fast approaching. No one knows what lies ahead. There may be more challenges that are about to test how strong and dynamic I could ever be. What is important is that, I am living my life the best way I can because of the people who love me amidst my imperfections and because God is always there to shine His guiding light to brighten my path.

2011 was an amazing year, I must say and I hope that 2012 would be more exciting and more challenging! Happy New year!

Bright Christmas at Silay City

Silay City is considered to be one of the most historic seats in Negros Occidental. It is affluent in culture and culturally-oriented people.

Silay is best known for its numerous ancestral houses, landmarks, Legend of Kansilay and the industry that brought delight and honor to the Silaynons.

Every time I go to school, I pass by the beautiful city and as always, I am astonished how rich and alive Filipino culture is. Every day, the feeling is the same..Not until December.

Every Christmas, Silay City is packed with lights that seem to play with you sight. Different Christmas booths are built by every barangays using indigenous materials, depicting their ways of life through displays such as the Nativity scene, Christmas trees and stars. These are made by purely Silaynons who are aesthetically inclined and who wants to share how different Christmas celebration is in Negros and in Silay City.

At the center of the plaza stands a colossal Christmas tree, ingeniously made and crammed with gleaming lights and pulsating colors of red and green. The tree is exquisitely made using rattan and other indigenous materials that are very abundant in the city. It is one of the core attractions in Silay City’s Christmas village.

Christmas is really something different in Silay City. People are lovable and hospitable, Filipino culture is alive and will live even if innovation takes place.

Visiting Silay City during Holidays is experiencing Christmas with a faultless scent of pure Filipino culture. No doubt, the city is considered to be the little Paris of Negros.

More than the white sand

Boracay Island is really a great place to gather, relax, unwind and have so much of fun.

The moment you land to the white beach, you can feel the fine, white sand kissing your feet while the waves slowly splashing to your ankles that would make you say, "This is one of the best the Philippines could offer and I should not miss this."

After the 4-day Global Media Forum at Boracay Regency Resort, we decided to tour around the Island.
After exploring the island, I realized that Boracay does not offer only clear and white sand but an experince whorth reminiscing in your entire life.

During the Global Media Forum, we met a lot of icons and some famous media personalities like; Sen. Edgardo Angara, Mr. Rey Langit, Mr. Rigoberto Tiglao, Mr. Ethan Sun, Mr. Chito Sta. Romana, Mr. Juan Dayang, Ms. Bella Cunanan, Mr. Tim De Vera,  the ambassadors of Iraq, Malaysia and Palau to the Philippines, Columnists and some writers outside the archipelago. New lanscapes in Journalism was discussed by the speakers and I can say that I learned a lot from those seasoned writers. (Two thumbs up for them!)

December 10, and the forum ended. I, together with my co-college paper writers and our adviser decided to enjoy the day. We played frisbee on the beach, under the scorching heat of the sun and do island hopping and snorkeling.

We rode a banca(of course, how could we island hop...LOLZ) with unexplainable happiness. As we continue with the boat ride, we saw wonders that we didn't even expect to see such as fantastic Resorts, caves, islands and islets. the waves were graceful that time and it seems like our boat is dancing with the waves.

Then, we stopped in the middle of the sea. The boatman said that we should wear the goggles and the breathing device to have a clear view of the aquatic life...and we're ready. Miss V jumped to the clear water first and we all followed. We saw some fishes, corals and other things under the surface of the water. We stayed in the water for about 15 minutes and we headed to the nearest beach.

We had our lunch at Puka Beach. Sumptuous sea-foods were served. Eventhough I'm quite allergic with shrimp, I ate some(Ssshhh..my mom don't know 'bout it.:-D)..and there, came the squid. it's a big one unlike the squids that we can see in the market(I was amazed really). After Lunch, we did some picture-takings on the beach. Then, we went back to our boat and continued with the tour.

As we go through, the waves became more hyperactive. Some water splashed on our things and we all suddenly screamed as if it's the end of the world(even it's not ;p). As we pass by the beaches of boracay, we saw different resorts that are really marvelous. We were all amazed that time(that was great really).

After that jaw-dropping sight, we saw a familiar place...
Suddenly, Harriette said, "Ayy, pabalik nata gali?"(Oh, are we heading back?)
"Yes Yet", said Miss V.
Then, we realized that our four-hour tour is over and we have to go down as soon as we get close to the beach where we rode the boat. Before the boat reached the shore, we did some photo sessions again(although we had so many shots during the first and the second part of the trip) until...

We reached the shore at 2:00 in the afternoon. We went back to the hotel where we are staying at and reviewed the snaps of our trip around the Island Paradise of Boracay. What a journey it has been!

It's not only the white, fine sands make Boracay a famous tourist destination but all other things you could explore beyond your expectations.

What kind of Christmas is this?

Giving Gifts, exchanging cards and the like. These are the things most of us do during Christmas. These things give us joy and happiness....and I wonder how my Christmas would be without it until...

One lazy afternoon, when I was on my way to the bus station, I saw five street children playing along the streets of Mabini @ Talisay City. All of them were barefooted as they run along the streets, playing.

I can hear them laugh and I can see the smiles in their faces---smiles that I can't explain. With all the Christmas lights on the streets, I heard one of them said "Sadya, sadya gd ya maghampang kung Christmas noh?"(It's really very fun to play during Christmas right?).

I wonder how and why they are happy. It's just a chasing game and I doubt if they had their lunch.

Then a question stroke my mind that time? "Are they really happy?"

...and I answered my question while still looking at them, "True, they are really happy."

Then, I remembered when I was a kid....

When I was a kid, I view Christmas as the best holiday because I receive so many gifts coming from my Parents, relatives and Ninongs and Ninangs (although my Ninongs and Ninangs don't give gifts now...and I don't know why. hmmm...) and I am very happy when I receive gifts and I expect more and more.

But now, my perception towards Christmas changed because of these street children. I wonder how they celebrate Christmas without gifts and presents, food, and even a home to celebrate in.

Then, I realized how lucky I am having my family with me, my friends and people who love me.
After seeing these children, I realized that gifts, presents and the other material things are not that important. What matters most is the happiness we feel and it becomes priceless and genuine when shared...because Christmas is not about giving and receiving gifts but giving love and blissfulness to others.

10 Tips for a Successful Stage Performance for Stage Actors and Actresses and Performers

1. Be Confident. Always think that you can do better than before.

2. Drink enough amount of water before the performance to avoid dry throat.

3. Practice your lines and blocking prior to the performance.

4. Check if your costume is exactly fitted with you and won’t bring you into shame.

5. Don’t let tension rule over you. Inhale and exhale.
6-4-6 technique is very much effective.

6. Be sure that your microphone’s battery is full.
It’s humiliating to lose your voice on the stereo because of the mic.

7. Just be yourself. Don’t overact. It doesn’t matter how big or small your role is.
What matters is the way you deliver your lines.

8. Don’t look at the eyes or a judge/VIP.
Glance at the forehead to lessen tension.

9. Don’t be distracted with an unnecessary movement in the crowd.

10. Always make sure that your facial expressions and movements are clear.
Remember you’re on stage.

In-Campus Student Teaching Journal

In-Campus
STUDENT TEACHING JOURNAL
Week no. 1

Period: June 21-23, 2011

I. Activities Done
On the 1st day of our In-campus internship, we introduced ourselves to our first year high school students who gave us a warm welcome.
On the 2nd day, we observed the class and after that, our critic teacher, Mrs. Desiree Donesa, assigned a topic for us to discuss in the following day.
On the 3rd day, we discussed the topic: Techniques in studying effectively in behalf of Ma’am Donesa who is in a meeting that time. The first year students really paid attention to our topic and they interacted with us. In the afternoon of the same day, we went to the College Multi-Purpose Hall together with our students to witness the grand rally of the candidates of the Supreme Student Government.
On the 4th day, we observed the class and we were assigned to be the judges in a group activity in connection with basics in taking down notes. And after the class, we bade goodbye to our students, telling them that we will be assigned to the Second year level the following week.
II. Insights Gained
In this level, I noticed that our students are in the stage of adjusting with each others’ behavior since they came from different schools when they were in elementary level. I also noticed that most of them love to have group activities.
I can say that the students were really paying attention to what the teacher is saying. And they pay attention to what they consider important.
When I got the chance to handle a class with them, I noticed that they really take down notes and asking questions if there are some unclear ideas for them.
Another thing I found out is that most of them really love music and when we ask some to sing, they were very proud to show what they got.
At the end of the week, I can say that these students are easy to handle and go along with since they are fresh from elementary level and they are very eager to learn so many things.

STUDENT TEACHING JOURNAL
Week no. 2

Period: June 27-July 1, 2011

I. Activities Done
On our 1st day with the second year level, we introduced ourselves to them after the teaching demonstration of the last member of the group 2. The 2nd year students also gave us a warm welcome but not as warm as the 1st year. Then after that Ma’am Donesa assigned us the topics for our demo.
On the 3rd day, Ms. Baterbonia and Ms. Argayoso handled the class. On the 4th, Ms. Banguanga and Ms. Bravo handled the class.
On the last day, I, together with Ms. Antiporda and Ms. Amistoso handled the class and we discussed about idiomatic expressions. We made use of what we have learned in Educational Technology subject. We had a game before we started with our lesson and introduced them the 20 most common idiomatic expressions.
The students actively participated in the discussion and I can say that there are no dull moments inside the classroom (maybe because we used the DLP as our instructional material).
II. Insights Gained
In this level, I can say that this bunch of students is really brilliant when it comes to their answers and when it comes to class participation. They are more matured than of the 1st year.
From the beginning of the class until the end, none of them was bored. And by the time the teacher is in front of them, they show respect and they know when to keep silent and be jolly.
Since we gave them examples which cannot be found in their textbooks, they jot down notes and paid a close attention to the discussion and all of the answers in the game were answered by them correctly.
I noticed that there are some of them who are really outrageous but you need patience (that’s what teaching is all about).
I also learned that most of them enjoy the PowerPoint presentation as an instructional material. These students are easy to teach because they are bright and they read in advance.

In-Campus
STUDENT TEACHING JOURNAL
Week no. 3

Period: July 4-9, 2011

I. Activities Done
On our 1st day with the third year level, we introduced ourselves to them after the teaching demonstration of the last member of the group 2. The 3rd year students also gave us a warm welcome but not as warm as the 1st year. Then after that Ma’am Donesa assigned us the topics for our demo.
On the 2nd day, Ms. Antiporda and Mr. Amazona handled the class. On the 3rd, Ms. Argayoso and Ms. Baterbonia handled the class. And Ms. Bravo and Ms. Banguanga did their demonstration.
On the last day, I and Ms. Amistoso handled the class and we discussed about Direct and Indirect Speech. We made use of the Traditional Materials as our visual aids. We had a game before we started with our lesson and introduced them the rules and basics on how to transpose a direct to indirect speech.
After the demonstration, it was announced to them that they ranked 2nd in the National Achievement Test that was conducted last year.

II. Insights Gained
In this level, I can say that students are smart but sometimes they tend to keep quite even if they know the answer.
I also noticed that they are more developed and demure (they easily act in response with issues pertaining to love).
In this level, many of them are stern when it comes to studying and I noticed that they always follow instructions. They might be diverse from the previous class that we handled but they are also brilliant just the way they are.
I also realized that as an educator you should always see to it that the vigor from the beginning of the class should be sustained until the last. And as a teacher, you should always give them activities that will surely fascinate their minds and will let them think critically.

STUDENT TEACHING JOURNAL
Week no. 4
Period: July 12-16, 2011
I. Activities Done
On our 1st day with the third year level, we introduced ourselves to them after the teaching demonstration of the last member of the group 2. The 4th year students also gave us a warm welcome.
On this week were able to deliver our final demonstration for our In-Campus Training.
Amistoso handled the class and we discussed about the origin of the world and the story of creation according to the Greek Mythology. We made use of the DLP and the Laptop as mediums in discussion. After the discussion we let the class divide themselves into three: Olympians, Titans and Demi Gods. They made us of the stuff toys inside their classroom.

II. Insights Gained
Students at this stage are smart. There might be students who are not that easy to deal with but at the end of the day, it is always the way your lesson is delivered that matters.
I also observed that these students are really active when it comes to class participation and they always enjoy role playing. I realized that as an educator, you always have to see to it that your communicative skills are enough and can satisfy the academic needs of your students in terms of explaining to them some vague issues.
