Every individual in this society has his and her own unique and distinct characteristics that are exceptional and different from others. We cannot say one is better than the other. We cannot compare, judge, nor say something against others right away. We need to know the person deeply before we say something negative.
In college, students are grouped according to their areas of specialization which is coherent to Gardner’s concept of Multiple Intelligences. It’s been three years of my stay in here in CHMSC and I am a witness of so many opportunities given to deserving students who does well in their areas of specialization and brought victory to our institution. I have also been a witness of couple of number of misinterpretations and I have been hearing negative feedbacks about group of students, specifically, BSED English students.
They say that English majors are arrogant, boastful and the like. . . and it’s been three years that no English major have reacted on this rumor---I might be the first one to stand and prove you wrong about this issue. Why is it that SOME always compare us to other students taking up other courses who are basically different from us? I admit that sometimes, we are too loud enough… but is it an appropriate reason for SOME to look at us as if we had committed a hideous crime and talk about us negatively? Complicated isn’t it?
You know what is the most frustrating among all? It is when the people whom you expect to encourage you seems to be the reason of your depression . . . and it’s not healthy I think. I am certain of individual differences and I RESPECT other people’s opinion but they, too, need to understand our nature. If they don’t, I advise them to stop wasting their time thinking about our mistakes and just don’t bother themselves about our imperfections. After all, WE ARE HERE IN SCHOOL NOT TO IMPRESS PEOPLE WHO DOESN’T EVEN TRIED TO ACCEPT US. We are here because we want to learn and persevere to reach our goals in life.
Actually, many achievers came from the English department---that is because we took all of those negatives as our reason to keep going and make each one of us proud and inspire others as well. We may not be as perfect as other people see themselves. We are only humans who sometimes commit mistakes. At the end of the day, we are always thankful to those who believe that we can . . . and to those who are wasting their time looking at our faults.
I always believe that criticisms are just part of growing up. It’s either you take it as an offense or a challenge for you to reach farther and higher than ever before.
